London to Brighton bike Ride
Me ( Mark ) James Mick & Jake all Riding on Mk1 choppers

The big wait at the start which was 9 o’clock with big crowds gathering with us with lots of people admiring the choppers and taking pics, we knew this would be a slow start. We all got away with the hope that there would be no accidents or problem’s with the bikes, this was not to be as 3 miles out of Clapham, Mick’s rear inner tube went off like a gun and blew the tyre off the rim, damaging the tyre, useless, ok we all packed inner tubes but not one tyre, this can’t be the end for Mick’s L2B already, so off to find a bicycle shop with a 20” chopper tyre !, as James, myself and Jake look for a shop poor Mick had to walk pushing the chopper till we found one, 2 miles up the road on route was a Halfords, BMX tyre it was. After Mick walking with the bike and fixing the rear tyre we lost about 30 minutes not too bad, back with the crowds of cyclist on route to Brighton we stopped at the first 10 mile stop for a 15min break, Hooray. With lots of steep hills on route hard work riding and pushing the bikes but great fun coming down with some high speeds, made some more stops about every 10 miles and the crowds started to get smaller as the day progressed. We all felt good so far with 40 miles behind us, not tiring yet but the big hill at Ditching Beacon was yet to be done, so we stopped at the bottom for a rest, with the hill over 700ft high and 2 miles long, this was going to be tough, with most people pushing their bikes uphill the twisty road seemed to go on and on, speaking to a guy on the way up he said “ once you’re at the top, it’s downhill all the way to Brighton and you won’t need to peddle” we reached the top along with many others, for a break. The long decent was great fun, with speeds of 40 + and the guy was right, hardly any peddling right down into Brighton. With the finishing line in sight at around 6.30pm it was a hard day but great day with a well-earned medal and a nice pint to finish off. Would like to do this again next year as it’s the 40th anniversary for the British Heart Foundation.
