Yup... on the standard Ford 4.9 ltr Windsor Block 0 - 60 was a staggering 15 seconds, slower than a Ford Transit. Thewre were better engines in the range topped by a 7.5 ltr V8.
Braking was... bloody scary !!
and at a whopping 6 MPG it was not cheap to run.

The hero cars used on the movie were built by this guy..

Using an Edelbrock 435.... oooooh yeah 8)

The TV show only used 6 Torinos for the entire Series,
On the movie they got through .... 18 of them !
Stunt cars were built by Ray Claridge who is a vetern of action movies.
He worked on The A-Team and Dukes of Hazzard.

Well they were used for different things..

At least 6 were wrecked by the stunt drivers and the actual footage shown at the end of the movie as out takes.
This included two which were 'jumped' and the chasis crumpled on landing.

Then there were the camera cars.
Several of the 18 are now in private hands..

This clip shows the destruction of at least 3 cars, one on the golf course, One into the sea and the jump at the end.. split the car in two !!

They sell for little money these days, this one just $5k

But yes they put out so little power considering the engine size it was remarkable, but
mainly down to sheer weight, that's why you just can't stop in them.

Love the sound of the Hemi engine, so iconic
